What is AWS Class E317L-16 Coated Electrodes?
AWS Class E317L-16 coated electrodes are formulated with a stainless steel core wire and a rutile-based coating enriched with elements like chromium (18–20%), nickel (12–14%), and molybdenum (3–4%), with low carbon content to minimize carbide precipitation. This composition ensures excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in aggressive environments. Mechanically, these electrodes provide a tensile strength of about 550 MPa, yield strength around 350 MPa, and elongation of 30–35%, ensuring toughness, durability, and reliable weld performance in critical applications.
