What is AWS Class ER 4047?
AWS Class ER 4047 is an aluminum-silicon (Al-Si) welding filler metal primarily composed of approximately 11% silicon with the remainder being aluminum. This composition provides excellent fluidity, low shrinkage, and superior corrosion resistance, making it ideal for joining aluminum and aluminum alloys, especially in automotive and marine applications. Mechanically, ER 4047 offers good tensile strength, typically around 190–220 MPa, and moderate elongation of 10–15%, ensuring durable and crack-resistant welds. Its high silicon content also minimizes hot cracking, making it a reliable choice for both TIG and MIG welding processes.
